What'sapp Voice Messages

Hello Sony,

I am currently facing an issue with my Xperia Z1 when attempting to send voice messages using What'sapp; my messages are recorded and sent but the message always arrives distorted and the voice is cutting in and out.

I have contacted Xperia Care live chat support, and for the millionth time they have again told me to repair my phone's software; my complaint in this case would be in two parts:

Part one is the issue with What'sapp, which I have removed and re-installed the app for and reset my phone's software.

And the second part is the Xperia Care live chat support, every time I am faced with any issues they always tell me to repair the phone's software; if every time I have a small issue I have to format then what would be the point of using the phone if I can't really keep anything on it? Going through the reset process wasted 5 hours of my time until everything was restored back to normal and a consumer does not have to go through this just because they are asking for help.

After the I have repaired the phone's software a new issue came up where my alarm tone was automatically changed back to the default tone rather than my custom tone; this issue used to happen in the early Kitkat update but was resolved after a recent patch.

Thanks,,,

If clearing data for "Clock" doesn't help, try moving the file to the internal storage and see if that helps. If you place it under media\audio\alarms you should be able to see it in the list of preinstalled alarms.

I suspect that the issue with voice messages has to do with Whatsapp and not the phone itself. When searching for this i found reports of it also on other phones and brands and if it was a problem with the sound recording in the phone it should happen also with our messaging app so i don't think there's anything we can do about it.

Does this also happen in other apps or is it only with Whatsapp? Try sending a voice message using for example Facebook messenger or the phones builtin messaging app and see what happens.

Try clearing data for "Clock" under Settings -> Apps -> All and then select your alarm signal again and see if that helps. If not, is the file stored on the internal storage or an SD card? Does it happen if you select another custom signal?

Thank you for your prompt and detailed response.

I have not tried any other apps but will give it a shot. Sending a recorded message using the phone's recorder works perfectly but the recording will be stored on my phone which is inconvenient.

As for the alarm tone, I will try clearing the data, and the current ringtone is downloaded and selected using a third party app called Zedge.
The app will store the ringtones on the internal storage. However, I recently found that the ringtones were stored in the Walkman app in the external storage after repairing the software and restoring the backup.

As for a different tone I will attempt using one from my music stored in the external storage.

Thanks,,,

Ok so I have been testing the device for the past week and concluded that when the ringtone is saved in the internal or external memory works. However, the problem is only with tones provided by the 3rd party app "Zedge" (in this case this is happening because after resetting the phone and restoring the backup; the downloaded tracks were also saved in the internal memory as music. Therefore there was a duplication - Maybe -.)

As for what'sapp; I agree with what you have stated but none of my peers have the same issue, I will try however after an application update as well as testing other apps.

I really appreciate your detailed efforts and will mark your reply as an answer.
