Wifi and DHCP

Hi,

I've been experiencing an issue with what appeared to be wifi. It seemed when i roamed to a certain wifi network I would get no internet access at all, when other devices worked fine on this network.

I tried doing all the disabling bluetooth, disabling power management stuff that was posted on the forum. After none of that worked I looked into the problem a little deeper. The specific error displaying in chrome was dns_probe_finished_no_internet, so i checked the DNS settings under

Settings -> Wi-Fi -> [SSID] long press  -> modify network -> Show advanced options

At this point i realised, even though i had Forgotten the network and reconnected (several times) to this network that the device had remembered previous DHCP settings including the DNS server and Gateway entries, which had changed since i first connected to this network. I changed these to static entries and it now works fine.

So in summary, it looks like the forget network functionality doesn't actually forget it...

ignore this, it was actually a rogue dhcp server on my network causing the different dhcp settings.

What do you mean by rogue DHCP server?

Just wondering if I can identify the same issue if it happens to me.

Thank you

A second dhcp server that shouldnt have been on the network giving out leases with incorrect routing and dns server entries.
