Xperia ZL, IR-Blaster doesn't seem to work with Remote Control App

Hello everyone.

A week ago I bought the xperia zl phone and I tried to also use the pre installed "Remote Control" App to use the built in Infrared blaster. I can't make it work though. What I did is:

- I manually installed two deviceds (projecter / av receiver).

- Through the remote control software I programmed some keys in holding the original remote of the device in front of the infrared blaster of the ZL. The Remote Control App told me that it 'Learnt the command'. I then saved everything and tried to use the programmed button but both deviced don't react. It seems the infrad signal is not sent out.

- I also tried to hold the infrared blaster of the zl really close to the deviced - still no reaction.

Do I miss something? Does infrared have to be switched on seperately? I checked in the apps and all Remote Control Apps / Service seem to be running.

I did uninstall / disable some sony apps before but I don't think I disabled relevent apps for the remote control to work....

Anyone having the same problem? or a solution Slightly_smiling_Face ?

Hi

I also have the same issue. I have a Sony Bravia TV and tested it there, so:

  1. On the TV with the preset buttons it works fine
  2. On my satellite receiver with learning it does not work
  3. On my TV with learning it does not work either

I don't really think that this is a hardware issue, it seems more like software. I played with it all night yesterday and was very disappointed it didn't work.

Waiting for Sony then.

Hi, have the same Problem like the others with my XL (C6503/Android 4.1.2/Build 10.1.1.A.1.253)

The Presets are working on my LG TV and half on my Phillips Sourroundsystem.

But everytime, ill try to learn new Signals, they dont work. IT says, Signal is learned, but nothing happens. Slightly_frowning_Face Hope there comes a fix.

This bug smells like software problem, since IR blaster able to learn the signal and send it's wrong version back, but Rickard from support already mentioned that it's a hardware problem and I'm yet

to see any ZL owner whith this function repaired/functional...

I have been chasing for this issue in India since 3 months but no proper response . I tried email as well as phone support. Phone guy says reload s/w or visit service center. When visited service center they say we do not have solution. Dear Sony you have messed up with this remote feature badly. We are the ones who bought xzl only looking at this differentiating feature.  How can company like Sony  make such blunder with their flagship phone. If it can't be resolved give us refund. I have an old micromax x235 which is basic phone but remote learning working excellent.

Sony is hiding from us. I hope they will say IR learning feature was not part of the specs and live with this.

Same issue here and some other ZL user in Malaysia reported the same problem as well. Almost all ZL user that I ask can't get the remote learning to work properly.

Preset works perfectly

Learning feature not working.

I don't believe it is hardware related issue.

If it is, then good luck sony, you have to recall and replace all the ZL phone that you have sold.

I bought xperia ZL yesterday (18th June 13). I bought this phone only because it has learning code remote hardware which galaxy s-4 lacks. But got disappointed as the codes are learnt but on pressing the programmed button nothing happens. Is there anyone from SONY listening? if this is the issue with all ZL users then why sony selling such defective phones? why they have not found any solution yet?

I am the one who started this topic and since then (April) I am trying to get my phone fixed. Directly after Rickard in the forum told us that we should contact support I did that. Support asked me to repair the phone with their windows software. I did that - didn't help. I again contacted Sony Support. They told me I should send the phone to the swiss repair center of Sony. I did that. Sony repair Center (Bachmann AG) refused my warranty and sent me a bill of 60 CHF. I called again Sony Support. They told me they will investigate. Yesterday I got a reply and they told me that they can't guarantee that the phone works with all of my infrared devices. This is NOT the problem. I tried with the same device: Sending infred command from presettings - working, sending infrared command from a learnt command: not working. I answered and so far I have no reply and I am the third week without my phone because it is in the repair center... I love xperia ZL but I am getting really annoyed buy now. I didn't buy that expensive phone to not have it for 3 weeks.

As somebody on this forum suggested I used another phone's camera to see the IR red light emmited by xperia-ZL. The IR codes are learnt by the device and on pressing the programmed key even IR light is emmited as seen through another phone's camera. That means the codes are not learnt properly or some software issue, but hardware is working.

I hope somebody from Sony India is reading these posts and finding solutions for it.

Logically it seems s/w problem but the way sony is responding it seems not so easy solution. if it was s/w problem should have been easily taken care as we already received couple of updates. Today I even upgraded to latest 4.2.2.(Build Number 10.3.A0.423) but our Learning problem still remains.

Another worry is SONY Global cannot resolve it so what do you expect from SONY India.  Sony announced this phone in Jan,13 saying that lot of innovative apps can be developed using such inbuilt IR. If you check Play Store there are several apps for HTC ONE, Galaxy S4 but none for XZL.

Sony might be cursing itself why they gave that Manual Setup option in IR Remote App. if we ignore this SONY will be grateful to us.
